Recycling in Campus Housing
Recycling in UK's residential facilities is coordinated by Housing Maintenance, with the goals of reducing waste, creating more sustainable facilities and encouraging residents to develop habits and lifestyle choices that will have positive economic, social, and environmental impacts. For more information on the programs below please contact Shane Tedder at shane.tedder@uky.edu.
Residence Halls and Greek Houses

Campus Housing operates a simple and convenient recycling program in the residence halls. The system is “single stream” which means that all the recyclable material can be placed in one container. The following materials can be recycled:
- Metal Cans (Steel and Aluminum)
- Plastic and glass bottles. Yogurt containers, cups, bags and other plastics are not recyclable in Lexington at this time.
- All types of paper (Office, colored, glossy, etc).
- Cardboard and pressboard (ex. cereal boxes).
Each residence hall room has a small recycling bin and every hall has a recycling station where the personal bins can be emptied.

Graduate and Family Housing
Campus Housing Coordinate with the Lexington Fayette Urban County Government (LFUCG) on recycling at Cooperstown, Shawneetown, Greg Page and the Commonwealth Village Apartments. In these areas there are two Rosie's (large blue recycling bins) located beside each dumpster. The following materials can be placed in those bins:
- Metal Cans (Steel and Aluminum)
- Plastic and glass bottles. Yogurt containers, cups, bags and other plastics are not recyclable in Lexington at this time.
- All types of paper (Office, colored, glossy, etc).
- Cardboard and pressboard (ex. cereal boxes).
Like the new design?
Campus Housing would like to thank Mabruk Quabili, a graduate student in the University of Kentucky College of Public Health, for providing the inspiration for the design of the posters for the new single stream collection program.
